SHORT BACKGROUND

Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) of Kazakh SSR SA was founded on the base of Physical-technical institute of Kazakh SSR SA on the 25 of July 1957. The aim of organization of this institute was the neccesity of development of physical and applied scientific investigations in the field of nuclear phyiscs and useof atomic energy in different spheres of national economy, preparation of highly qualified staff. Initiators of foundation of INP were President of Kazakh SSR AS, member of the Academy K.I. Satpaev and member of Academy of USSR SA I.V.Kurchatov.Acting director of INP was appointed Zh.S.Takibaev. Directors of Kazakh SSR SA INP since1958 up to 1965 was member of the Academy of Kazakh SSR SA G.D.Latyshev, since 1965 up to 1970 member of the Academy Zh.S.Takibaev, since 1970 up to 1987 member of the Academy Sh.Sh.Ibragimov, since 1987 up to 1997 Corresponding Member A.K.Zhetbaev. At the present time director of INP is Prof. K.K.Kadyrzhanov.
On the base of INP there were organized: Institute of high energies physics of Kazakh SSR SA (1970), Physical-technical Institute of Kazakh SSR SA (1990), Almaty department of Atomic energy Institute of NNC RK(1993).
With organization of National Nuclear Center (NNC)of the Republic of Kazakhstan (in January 1993) there took place at the Institute the structural changes. Firstly, INP became a member of RK NNC,secondly, there was organized an Almaty department of the Atomic Energy Institute (OJSC AEI) NNC RK, to which there were transferred a number of laboratories, experimental facilities and offices of INP, including reactor VVR-K.

By Order of the General director of National Nuclear Center, Cherepnin Y.S., ¹ 37 from 9th of June 2000. “On reorganization re-registration of subsidiary company” Almaty department of Atomic Energies Institute was affiliated to INP of RK NNC.
